A transgender weightlifter has sparked outrage after winning her first national competition – beating the woman who finished second by a combined 37 pounds.

Vicki Piper, 57, took first place in both her age and weight groups among women earlier this month at the Masters National Championships in Reno, Nevada, WPDE reported.

Piper lifted 123 pounds in the snatch and 156 pounds in the clean and jerk, for a combined 279 pounds, which bested her closest competitor. Krista Dornbush, by a combined 37 pounds, the outlet reported.

The weightlifter celebrated the victory on Instagram, where she wrote: “First National weightlifting meet for me,” adding, “#transwomenarewomen.”

“Thank you, USA Weightlifting, for hosting such a well thought out and supportive event here in Reno, Nevada,” Piper wrote.

Several conservatives expressed their anger about fairness in women’s sports.

“Progressives used to argue in favor of Title IX for women to compete separately in sports,” entrepreneur and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy wrote on X.

“Now they argue for men to compete against them. They used to say the sex of the person you’re attracted to is hardwired on the day you’re born. Now they say your sex is totally fluid,” he added.

Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colorado, also lashed out.

“We need to get men out of women’s sports once and for all!” she wrote on X.

User ReallyRowdyRed posted: “Vicki Piper competed as a woman at the Masters National Weightlifting Championships this weekend in Reno, NV, and of course won. Why are women still competing in these competitions???”

USA Weightlifting requires trans athletes under its policies to provide evidence of undergoing hormone therapy for at least two years “to minimize gender-related competition advantages.”

Last year, a Minnesota court ruled that USA Powerlifting must allow trans athletes to compete in its women’s divisions, according to WPDE.

Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyoming, recently slammed Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Washington, for becoming emotional over her bill prohibiting men from competing against women in Olympic and amateur sports.

“It was highly inappropriate and I also felt it was largely staged,” Hageman said during a hearing.
